Spring cleaning ritual and recipe.

Spring cleaning is one thing. But a spring cleaning ritual will change how you manifest and energetically cleanse forever. Right after the spring equinox I like to use this waning moon to clean out the old to welcome in new opportunities and attract the goals I have set for the year ahead.  Here is how I like to do a full spiritual spring cleaning ritual. For ideas on herbs and oils please see the bottom of the page. Start by lighting a candle, scented candles will add a beautiful smell to your home.  Before I clean I also like to journal and brain dump all of the information that is running around in my head, and then set out my intention and goals for the year ahead. This will also then help us to set intentions into our cleaning ritual. After this I create a simmer pot. A simmer pot is a boiling pot of water with natural ingredients that we are going to create with the intention that we will be manifesting our goals for this year.  To set your intention simply take 3 d...

Ostara Lemon, Honey and Lavender Prosperity Loaf Cake (Dairy Free)

This Lemon, Honey and Lavender Loaf pound cake is perfect for a cheeky treat with an afternoon tea or coffee. It has been created especially for Ostara celebrations for you and your family and friends to welcome spring, new beginnings and opportunities for abundance in your life.

I like to locally source my eggs and honey and if you are able to then it can really benefit this recipe and the celebration of Ostara. For many of you, this may also be a wonderful time for also trying to source local lavender if you live by any lavender fields (depending on where you are in the world). For me, local lavender isn't available but local honey is perfect to fight off the allergy season ahead (especially if you do live near lavender fields).

I also save my eggshells, some I like to blow out and decorate and hang around my home or altar space. And I also crack an egg and use one half to plant spring seeds, and the other half to use as a handle to keep on my Ostara Altar. For this recipe, you will need.

Dry ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of plain flour
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp dried lavender (make sure it is food grade/ edible)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

Other ingredients:

  • 1 cup non dairy yogurt (I used alpro vanilla)
  • 1/2 cup room temperature non dairy butter (softened or slightly melted)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbs fresh grated lemon zest
  • 1 tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbs pure vanilla extract

How to make your cake.

  1. Preheat the oven to 165 degrees C or 325 degrees F.
  2. Add the flower, baking powder, bicarb of soda, salt and half of the sugar into a bowl and mix these as your dry ingredients.
  3. In a separate bowl soften your butter or melt (but make sure the butter isn't hot when you add the eggs) Mix in the other half of the sugar then add in the eggs. This is your wet mixture.
  4. Add your wet mixture slowly to your dry mixture, mixing as you go, this will thicken and become quite a thick dough.
  5. Add the yogurt to soften the mixture and stir until you get a cake mix consistency.
  6. Add in the vanilla extract, lemon zest, lemon juice and lavender.
  7. Pour the cake mixture into a lined or greased 9x5 loaf tin.
  8. Place in the oven for 35 minutes.
  9. If your mixture is still soft in the middle when you take it out of the oven, cover the tin tightly with tin foil and continue to cook in the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes until you test a fork, and it comes out clean.
  10. Remove from the oven and leave to cool for 5 minutes.
  11. Place the cake on a cooling rack (I use an oven shelf on top of my stove)
  12. When the cake has cooled, you can decorate with honey, I like to make a glaze using  a mixture of icing sugar, water, drop of vanilla essence and pinch of lavender.
  13. Cut and enjoy.
